Veterans Education and Training Benefits

The Mt. SAC Veterans Services Center is dedicated to helping veterans and their families access the wide range of education benefits offered by the VA. Below is a list of the most commonly used benefits and their basic eligibility requirements. Interested students should visit the VA'sGI Bill benefit sitefor the most current information regarding the types of educational benefits offered by the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and to start the application process.

Below is a basic listing of the most commonly utilized VA educational benefits:
Benefit Description
If you have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001, and are still on active duty, or if you are an honorably discharged Veteran or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days, you may be eligible for this VA-administered program.
Montgomery GI Bill (CH 30)

For active duty members who enroll and pay $100 per month for 12 months and are then entitled to receive a monthly education benefit once they have completed a minimum service obligation.

Veterans are eligible if they have received, or will receive, a discharge that is other than dishonorable; have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10% from VA; and apply for VR&E services.
DEA (CH 35)

REAP (CH 1607)
REAP provides educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency declared by the president or Congress.
CalVet Fee Waiver The College Tuition Fee Waiver for Veteran Dependents benefit waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at any State of California Community College, California State University, or University of California campus. This program does not cover the expense of books, parking or room and board. There are four plans under which dependents of veterans may be eligible.
